Blue Ameraucana Chickens are one of several color varieties of Ameraucana chickens recognized by the APA.   Blue chickens are based on blacks, but with the black feathers diluted to blue by the blue gene (Bl).  The feathers are a blue/gray color, but the eggs are true blue.

Ideally each feather is laced with black.  We started offering Blue Ameraucana day-old chicks in 2019.  These are NOT “Easter Eggers”, nor are they “Araucana”…they are the real deal!   We have a limited supply of this rare variety that was created by John W Blehm.  These are in limited supply.  You will love these baby chicks and can watch them grow up to lay beautiful shades of blue eggs for your table.

Breeding Note:  Blue chickens do not breed true and our blue to blue matings produce approximately 50% blue chicks, 25% black chicks and 25% splash chicks.  We will send as many blues as we can in your order, but please also expect some black and splash Ameraucana chicks in your order.

What is a blue Ameraucana?

Blue chickens are based on blacks, but with the black feathers diluted to blue by the blue gene (Bl). The feathers are a blue/gray color, but the eggs are true blue. Ideally each feather is laced with black.

The large fowl blue Ameracuana chicken is one of several color varieties of Ameraucanas the American Poultry Association recognizes. Global poultry Co.Ltd® started offering blue Ameraucana day-old chicks in 2015. They are not the same as Easter Egger™. Nor are they Araucana. They are the real deal!  We have a limited supply of this rare variety, created by Master Breeder John W. Blehm.

Blue chickens are based on blacks, but with the black feathers diluted to blue by the blue gene (Bl). Ideally each feather has black lacing. The plumage is a blue/gray color, but the eggs are true blue. A small percentage may be light green.

Blue chickens do not breed true and our blue to blue matings produce approximately 50% blue chicks, 25% black chicks and 25% splash chicks.  We will send as many blues as we can in your order, but please also expect some black and splash Ameraucana chicks in your order.

Because our sexers have a hard time determining the gender of this breed, their vent sexing is only about 80% accurate. That is well below the normal average of 90% accuracy for other breeds. Please keep this in mind when ordering females.

Description. Splash Ameraucanas are mostly white birds with random splashes of blue to black color in their feathers. These attractive chickens are easy to create by breeding two blue Ameraucanas together. Since blue doesn’t breed true, blue, black and splash chicks may hatch.

How many eggs do Ameraucana chickens lay per week?

Ameraucana chickens will lay 3-4 blue shelled eggs each week. This comes out to somewhere around 200 eggs a year – a very good amount for a small family! Whilst they lay all year round, you can expect them to slow down during their molt and the winter months. You should know that she can be slow to start laying.
