Black Giant Chickens

This is the original Black Giant Chickens For Sale developed in New Jersey in the late 19th century by crossing several of the large, dark Asiatic breeds. It is a super heavy bird even a little larger than the whites. It’s black plumage has a beautiful green sheen, the eyes are dark brown, shanks and toes are black except for yellow skin showing on the bottoms of the feet. With the straight red comb and tremendous size it makes an unusually handsome variety for exhibition. Hens are good layers of brown eggs and especially persistent through cold weather. Baby chicks are mostly black but do show creamy patches on the underbody, wing tips, and around the face. The white persists in the plumage until final molt of chick feathers takes place.

How can you tell if a Jersey Giant is a rooster?

For whatever reason, black Jersey Giants tend to be larger than the whites. These Black Giant Chickens For Sale are tall, too, with roosters standing more than two feet tall and hens rising just below them. They have long bodies that are deep and wide, making them look rather rectangular in appearance.

Difference Between Jersey Giant and Black Australorp

Black Australorps and Jersey Giants are often mistaken by some people who are less familiar with both chicken breeds. Although Jersey Giants are huge, some look like Black Australorps.

The Australorp has white skin. The shanks and toes are dark slate. The undersides of the feet are pinkish white to grayish. The Jersey Giant’s skin is yellow. The shanks and toes are black to dusky yellowish-green. The undersides of the feet are yellow.
